Teach Fundamentals of Mechatronic Actuators

The QNET Mechatronic Actuators Board is ideally suited to introduce a variety of actuators that are commonly used in mechatronic systems today. Developed exclusively for NI ELVIS platform and LabVIEW™ software, the system teaches students about the fundamentals of each actuator, their design considerations, common specifications, interfacing and operation. Students learn principles of electromagnetic actuation, linear and PWM actuators, brushed and brushless DC motors, stepper motors and servos.

How It Works

The QNET Mechatronic Actuators Board provides an integrated amplifier and a communication interface with the NI ELVIS II(+), interfaced to a PC or laptop via USB link.

The QNET Mechatronic Actuators Board consists of a 6 V solenoid, two 24 V brushed DC motors, a 24 V brushless DC motor, a 5 V unipolar stepper motor, and a 6V servo motor. One of the brushed DC motors is commanded through a linear power amplifier, the other is commanded by a PWM amplifier. The solenoid can be used to couple the two brushed DC motors. The brushless DC motor, stepper motor and servo motor are driven by a PWM amplifier. Current sense is used to read the current supplied to each of the motors, the angular position of the motors is measured by photomicrosensors.

The QNET Mechatronic Actuators Board is fitted with a variety of safety measures to ensure proper system configuration. Status LEDs provide feedback to users.
