Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Engineer, with a background in Control Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field, to join our Business Development department as a Technical Sales Specialist. This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Engineering professional.

This position reports directly to the Chief Business Development Officer, and is responsible for the development of new business, and cultivating existing business and assisting other US market colleagues with respect to the sales of undergraduate mechatronic teaching solutions jointly offered by Quanser and National Instruments. The ideal candidate must have a strong sense of accountability and drive in order to achieve quotas and goals.

Responsibilities:

Business Development

  • Meets established revenue targets in assigned region of the USA
  • Develops and grows the business in the USA for the product portfolio provided (QNET boards, Qube and Aero products using NI ELVIS, RIO technology)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with decision makers at key institutions/funding agencies
  • Generate new business development leads in your region, and follow up on identified leads
  • Coordinate the involvement of other departments, i.e. Engineering and Marketing, along with management resources, in order to meet partner performance objectives and partners’ expectations
  • Establish credibility with prospective clients by demonstrating expertise and knowledge of academic solutions
  • Effectively listen to and engage clients in conversation in order to understand and identify their needs and then provide solutions through matching an appropriate product/service to satisfy the need
  • Posses the ability to confidently discuss issues such as:
    • Letters of intent, Letters of Credit
    • Payment terms
    • Shipping
    • Arranging demonstrations
    • Conflicts of interest
    • Regulations
    • Contracts
  • When applicable, assist the production team in ensuring deliverables are on time and on budget
  • Ensure the quality of deliverables meets with client expectations
  • Attend industry conferences and tradeshows as required
  • Travel is required for this role (approximately 30-40% of the time)

Sales Planning and Analysis

  • Forecasts and reports regularly and accurately on direct sales
  • Investigate and understand academic/research funding mechanisms in the US
  • Contribute to proposal development including innovative approaches and methodologies
  • Prepare weekly sales reports

Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • A Bachelors Degree or higher in Engineering from a recognized University (preferably in the field of Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical or Control)
  • Proven technical sales ability (min 2 years) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of higher education systems and US funding process would be an asset
  • Understanding of Quanser and National Instruments product range
  • Experience working with a CRM system
  • Familiarity with Control Systems
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW
  • Familiarity with DAQ boards, sensors and actuators
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Quanser has a team oriented and technologically passionate culture, offering competitive salaries commensurate with experience level . Compensation for this role will be comprised of base salary plus the potential to earn commissions and bonuses.
